GIGS # 2

DEPECHE MODE, Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona. November 2009

After more than one year I take part in a BIG EVENT as it can be this second gig at Palau Sant Jordi for this electronic English band formed almost 29 years ago. So why I have to feel old when a band with almost my age is still touring around the World with sold-out gigs?
I arrive at Palau Sant Jordi around 20.00, a little bit early but in these cases I like to enjoy the atmosphere pre-gig as it was an important football match. First thing that I discover is that my general admission ticket is for the parquet when the most expensive tickets are reserved for the numbered seats of the stands. My last gig in a indoor sports area was almost 10 years ago but I did not remember such price difference.Your seat will be reserved and you will not sweat with the mass but where is the pleasure of a gig so? Standing well far from the stage as you were supporting a football team taking pictures and videos? It´s better to be downstairs with the mass.Definetly.
At 20.30 the guest band starts. They are THE SOULSAVERS, dark and slow as a winter night. For almost 30 minutes they are the soundtrack of a Palau Sant Jordi getting always more crowded while funny guys are selling ´´cerveza´´ around for 11 Euro for pint. After 40 minutes of boredom, the agony is over and it is time to change the instruments on the stage, while techno music is on the air to keep the mass alive. As wrote on the ticket, the show starts at 2130 sharp - more or less- and the Arena is full as it can get.
For the first half hour , as I am not really a Fan-atic of the band, the gig to my hears appears a little bit dull but they give me a start when begin ´´ I feel you´´. From there on it is a big karaoke with the delighted crowd acting to give to this night a special flavour especially during ´´Never Let me down Again´´ and ´´Enjoy the Silence´´.
Instead my thirsty after them is satisfied almost at the end with the performance of my favourite DM song: ´´Personal Jesus´´.
On the way to the Metro, a guy is trying to sell me a ´´Depeche Sandwhich´´. I am not hungry but more than all I am not a Fan-atic. I am sorry, it will be for the next time.

Maybe from the stands it was looking like this..

Electronic Vibes #2

NICK CURLY @ 213 N 8th St Brooklyn, NY. October 2009

New York is not Berlin . Great location, great people but everything was over too early. There was not enough time to enjoy completely the Set- Music stopped around 4.30 AM.Is this ´´the city that never sleep´´? Anyway if you go to Brooklyn check it out electronic nights organized in this place. You can find a very nice atmosphere and for a couple of hours you can feel like dancing in Europe.
